Grantham Journal letters: Turn engine off!
Given all the news, concerns and protests over air pollution by car exhaust I took an opportunity to suggest to a young female driver in a parked car, operating a mobile with the car engine running.
Having attracted her attention by motioning, she turn the engine off.
She eventually wound down the window and I explained that she should turn the engine off on this, a fine warm day.
She explained she was waiting to attend the Barrowby young mother and toddler group and didn’t want to wake her baby in the back! Not only breaking the law in operating a mobile, not in control of the car and endangering her baby’s health, I left in despair.
And where does the baby sleep at night? Presumably in the car on the drive/road with the engine running.
Anything for a quiet night’s sleep I suppose and damn the environment and the law!
