Grantham mum to take on sky dive to raise mental health awareness

A mum is skydiving for a mental health charity after being diagnosed with postnatal depression (PND) and postpartum psychosis last year.

Jessica Bateson, of West Side Avenue, Grantham, spent seven weeks in a mother and baby unit last year after being diagnosed with post-natal psychosis, the rare but serious and potentially life-threatening mental health issue, after giving birth to her second child.

Despite being terrified of heights, the 25-year-old mum-of-two is determined to conquer her fears in order to raise funds for MIND, a mental health charity that offers information and advice to people with mental health problems.

She said: “It’s a subject that is very close to my heart after being diagnosed with postpartum psychosis/OCD and PND. Having faced suicidal thoughts and soul destroying depression. I know first-hand how it feels to be in a very dark place.

“Mental health is not spoken enough about and I would like to do all I can to spread that awareness.”

Jessica is yet to book the skydive but hopes to raise £500 for the charity.
