A recruitment evening for police volunteers was held at Grantham police station last week.

More than 50 people attended the event to hear about opportunities to volunteer for Special Constabulary, Support Officers, PCSO’s and Police Cadets.

There were regular police officers, members of the Special Constabulary, PCSOs and Support Officers to give advice and encouragement on the evening.

Vice Chairman of Lincolnshire Police and Crime Panel and district councillor Ray Wootten said he was pleased that more than 50 people went along to hear about Commissioner Alan Hardwick’s scheme, V1000, in which he hopes to achieve a total of 1,000 volunteers in the county force while he is in office.

Coun Wootten said: “I was encouraged that so many people attended this event who are interested in serving as a volunteer. Those that I talked to were really keen to give something back to the community.”

To date there are over 500 volunteers in the force, including 130 support volunteers, 31 volunteer PCSO’s and 160 cadets. Overall these volunteers commit themselves to 44,500 hours over a year.

The evening was led by Special Constabulary Superintendent Charles Skiera.

Should anyone be interested in becoming a volunteer they can contact Jackie Rowe, volunteer co-ordinator, by calling 101 ext 47063 or by email at 1000volunteerchallenge@lincs.pnn.police.uk
