Wyndham Park has made the Gleen Flag Award list for the third year running, proving it is a park Grantham should be proud of.

The park is among a record-breaking 1,582 parks and green spaces across the UK, 131 of which are in the East Midlands, that today (Thursday) received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

A tremendous amount of hard work has been put into improving the park and this is recognition of a special place for the people of Grantham and visitors to enjoy.

It is maintained by South Kesteven District Council with support from the Wyndham Park Forum.

SKDC’s portfolio holder for arts, leisure and culture Councillor Linda Wootten said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for the third year from Keep Britain Tidy. This award recognises and highlights that people in South Kesteven are benefitting from a green space of the very highest quality.

“It’s testament to the work of our grounds maintenance team and our contractors Glendale who maintain it and the thousands of visitors we have every year who enjoy and respect it that means we can proudly fly the flag again for another 12 months.”

John Knowles, chairman of the Wyndham Park Forum, added: “I am extremely pleased that Wyndham Park has been awarded Green Flag status for 2015/2016.

“In recent years a tremendous amount of hard work has been put into improving the park and this is recognition of a special place for the people of Grantham and visitors to enjoy.”

The Green Flag Awards are judged by an army of more than 700 green-space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

Green Flag scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme. All the flags flying this year are a testament to the efforts of the thousands of men and women, both staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
