Grantham store Greenwoods to close down after 30 years in the town
Greenwoods menswear store is closing down after 30 years in the town.
The store, in the Isaac Newton Shopping Centre, is holding a closing down sale and is likely to shut its doors for the final time in the next couple of months.
A spokesman for the store said the company was ‘disappointed’ to be closing. It said a hike in its rent was the reason for its closure.
Greenwoods sales director David Alleston said: “The rent is unsustainable. It’s been a challenge for us. We have worked really hard to find a suitable premises in the town but without success. We do not want to leave Grantham. We feel we should be in the town, but unfortunately we cannot find the right property.”
Mr Alleston added: “It’s very disappointing. If we can come back to the town we will. We have got a really good base of customers and many people have been shopping with us for many a year and I think the store is going to be missed.”
Greenwoods had a store on the High Street for many years before closing down there and relocating to the shopping centre operated by Morrisons.
The company says it is also looking at other locations to open a store, including Newark.
The Journal is waiting for a comment from the landlords of the Greenwoods store.
