Grantham store takes part in 5,500 mile ‘Tour de Screwfix’
Staff from the Screwfix store in Grantham recently participated in ‘Tour de Screwfix’, a mammoth 5,500 mile national cycle relay, in order to raise money for The Screwfix Foundation.
The challenge is seeing 800 Screwfix staff at each of its branches nationwide riding a leg over an eight week period, with a target to raise £100,000 for the foundation.
The Screwfix Foundation supports projects to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and facilities for those in need. It is now calling out for charities in and around Grantham to apply for a share of the funds raised by ‘Tour de Screwfix’.
Darren Whiten and Andy Witcomb from the Grantham store covered the Grantham to Nottingham Queens Drive leg of the challenge, covering 27.3 miles.
Darren said: “It’s been great to raise money for the Screwfix Foundation by taking part in this unique challenge. We can’t wait to see how the money will help such deserving causes.”
Andrew Livingston, CEO of Screwfix, said: “We are extremely proud of all the staff at all of our 400 stores throughout the UK who are participating in this incredible challenge.
“It’s a fantastic achievement which is raising money to enable The Screwfix Foundation to continue its hard work in supporting well-deserving, local causes.”
The Screwfix 400th store cycle challenge which started in Inverness on April 13, will travel to every store in the UK, including those in Northern Ireland, before heading to Yeovil which is home to Screwfix’s head office.
Then 21 head office employees will embark on the final leg of the journey - a massive 162 mile ride to the 400th store in Hinckley.
Andrew added; “The challenge is also a great way to celebrate the launch of our 400th store in Hinckley, which is the latest addition in our nationwide store expansion programme.
“We will see a total of 60 brand new Screwfix stores in 2015 to give local tradesmen even better access to all the essentials they need, at a time and place that suits them.”
The Screwfix Foundation works with two national charity partners, Barnardo’s children’s charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as lending a welcome helping hand to smaller, local registered charities, which are carrying out projects which involve fixing, maintaining or repairing buildings or facilities.
