Volunteers are being asked to make Grantham ‘Clean for the Queen’ as part of her 90th birthday celebrations.

Residents can take part in a nationwide litter pick in the run up to Her Majesty’s landmark birthday on April 21.

The national campaign aims to inspire a million people to take action and enjoy a few hours together litter picking, to make the places where they live and work cleaner.

South Kesteven District Council’s executive member for environment Councillor Nick Craft said: “We keep our streets clean, maintaining them for residents, visitors and investors alike, but this effort is specifically for our towns, villages and rural areas to be clean for Her Majesty’s birthday.”

Organisations and individuals are invited to join SKDC’s extra efforts on Friday, March 4. The council is also encouraging town and parish councils in the district to get on board. Those wishing to get involved should contact the council on Facebook or Twitter, email pr@southkesteven.gov.uk or complete a general enquiry form at www.south kesteven.gov.uk

Coun Craft added: “We are looking to participate in a number of litter pick activities throughout the year, starting with this dedicated effort to help make our streets even cleaner. We are encouraging individuals or groups to join us on March 4 or co-ordinate their own efforts with our support, if required.”

The nation’s litter charities are supporting the campaign with companies, land managers and associations as part of litter blitzes across the weekend of March 4 to 6.
