Grantham woman saw A52 crash involving her sister, dad and baby niece
A young woman has described the horrific moment when she looked in her rear view mirror and realised her family following behind had been involved in a serious crash.
On Monday Megan Allen, 26, had just enjoyed a family lunch at The Gap Inn at Muston, and was driving back with her children in the car. Following behind in a white Audi was her sister Chloe, dad Michael and six-month-old baby niece Dolly.
After passing Sedgebrook on the A52, Megan checked her rear view mirror, but could no longer see her sister’s car.
“I got a gut-feeling that something was wrong, so I turned my car around. When I went back I saw cars piling up. A lorry driver stopped and smashed the car window to get my sister out. And the emergency services arrived so quickly - they were amazing.”
In the crash with a BMW, 24-year-old Chloe sustained cracked ribs, a bleeding spleen and bruised lungs. Michael also suffered cracked ribs. Dolly who had been in the back seat was thankfully unhurt, but kept in hospital overnight for observation.
The driver of the BMW, a 38-year-old man from Wisbech, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Queens Medical Centre. He is said to be in a stable condition.
The A52 was closed until 6.20pm as police investigated the scene and a damaged power cable had to be removed.
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to call the Witness Hotline on 01522 558855 quoting incident 194 of June 1.
