Guided walks from Londonthorpe Woods to Bellmount Tower announced as part of ongoing Reconnecting Grantham project




A series of events has been announced as part of an ongoing project to connect two local beauty spots.

The Reconnecting Grantham project is aimed at connecting Londonthorpe Woods, managed by The Woodland Trust, with the area east of Belton House, run by the National Trust.

On September 17, at Londonthorpe Woods, there will be the annual Heritage Open Day walks. This year the walks start from Londonthorpe Woods and makes its way to Bellmount Tower, connecting with the site’s wartime history with interactive skits from Grantham Dramatic Society.

At the end of the walk, those taking part will be able to see the glorious view of Grantham from the top of Bellmount Tower.

A captivating photographic exhibition, bringing together all the winners and runners-up of the Reconnecting Grantham’s Photography Competition, will be displayed between September 8 and 17 at Londonthorpe Woods. The photographs are being displayed around the easy access track.

A series of wellbeing walks are also planned, starting on September 21 and continuing every other week from then onwards.

Aaron Benson, Reconnecting Grantham Community Development Officer, said: “These walks will take people through the picturesque landscapes and hidden gems of the Londonthorpe Woods and Bellmount sites, offering the opportunity to unwind, connect with nature, and embrace a healthy and active lifestyle. We warmly encourage individuals and community groups to join and explore the beauty that surrounds us.

“Additionally, we're delighted to announce an exciting Tree Identification Walk on August 24, with an encore presentation on September 3. These walks will take you on an immersive journey, unravelling the secrets of Londonthorpe Wood's diverse and impressive tree population.”
