Harry Potter and Star Wars sculptor visits Grantham College
Just before the lockdown was implemented, Grantham College welcomed a guest who had been involved with some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.
John Coppinger has worked as a sculptor, creature designer and creature performer for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Walking with Dinosaurs, Return to Oz and many more films and TV shows.
The visit, organised by the college’s Steven Healey, saw John give media students a rare insight into the film industry.
To illustrate his many works in film and television, John brought in some of the models and creatures that he had designed, one of which was Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars, a giant space slug gangster. John was involved with creating the model for episodes one and six of the famous film saga.
John also worked on the first two Harry Potter films as an animatronic model designer. His task was to design and create magical creatures that would bring the wizarding world to life.
