Houses planned on site of former Church of the Epiphany vicarage in Grantham

Four houses could be built next to a former vicarage in Grantham.

Plans submitted to South Kesteven District Council ask for permission to build four terraced properties on an 887 sq m site in The Grove, on the Earlesfield estate.

The site is also home to what was a vicarage connected to the Church of the Epiphany.

The church was closed in 2011 and demolished in 2016, before planning permission was secured for four two-storey terraced dwellings in its place.

These were built, located to the east of the application site.

The applicant intends to replicate the design of properties built in nearby Church Row.

The vicarage was the subject of a planning application for a change of use to offices, which was granted in June 2011.

In the planning application, applicant AG & KG Properties said: “It is important that the proposed scheme seeks to respect the existing character of The Grove – there is a general consistency in terms of building scale, form and appearance within the local vicinity.

“Any new dwellings should seek to assimilate naturally within the setting, ensure it reflects the immediate character, and make a positive contribution to the area.”

It added that the style of the homes proposed would be similar to those built on the site of the old church, in Church Row.

“It is intended that the terraced dwellings would closely reflect the style, character and materials of the immediate neighbouring terraced dwellings to the east, Church Row,” it added.

“The proposed scheme would look to replicate a similar scale, style and material palette to ensure continuity of appearance.”

The application will be dealt with by SKDC in due course.
