Hundreds of bikers ride into Grantham on Easter Egg Run
Hundreds of bikers made a impressive sight as they rode into town for their 32nd Easter Egg Run yesterday (Sunday).
The bikers started from their traditional location at the Rutland Arms pub in Bottesford before rising along the A52 to Grantham and the Meres leisure centre.
They delivered hundreds of Easter eggs to be distributed among local children in need.
The Deputy Mayor of Grantham, Councillor Mark Whittington, was at the leisure centre to greet the bikers as they arrived with their gifts.
Coun Whittington said: "It was great to see so many local bikers, over 300, turn up to support the annual Easter Egg Run and to give so many eggs, chocolate and toys to those children who wouldn’t otherwise receive an egg at Easter.
"The continued generosity of the bikers never ceases to amaze me and I want to thank each and every one of them. Ride safe."
John Bartlett, who has organised the event since it began, said 201 motorcycles took part in the run and there were an estimated 800 to 1,000 eggs delivered to Grantham and then Melton Mowbray.
He said: "I am very, very pleased. It was a very good turnout. It was raining to start with but then dried up and was perfect."
The eggs will be distributed in Grantham by the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The event also raised £267.30 for the Lincs&Notts Air Ambulance.
The bikers will be back in town on November 26 when they will take part in their annual Toy Run.
