A new business selling desserts in Grantham has opened its doors.

“I’ve always been fond of cooking, I’ve always been creative,” explained Shakeel.

“I was tired of sitting in an office behind a desk, I got divorced and thought I would start living my dream and do something that made me happy.”

Shakeel, aged 42, has moved from London to open Oh My! Sugar Pie, after seeing the available space in the George Centre, which previously housed Cappuccinos cafe.

He said that he “liked the location”, but added that since opening, customers coming into the business have described the George Centre as a “ghost town”.

Oh My! Sugar Pie will serve ice cream, waffles, crepes, sundaes, cannolis, milkshakes, coffee and cakes.

The business was due to open back in August, but Shakeel explained that there had been “some technical issues”, but added that it was “better late than never”.

He said that he eventually wants to add hot food to the menu, once the business “finds its feet”.

Shakeel continued: “I am one of the owners and the manager. I do have business partners, Naeem, Ray and Aadil, my brother.

When asked what customers can expect from Oh My! Sugar Pie, Shakeel said: “Good desserts, a nice environment to dine in. It’s nice and relaxed here. That is what I have been told by customers coming in.”

The opening hours are 10am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.
