Ingoldsby school joins David Ross Education Trust as an academy

A village primary school near Grantham has become an academy.

Ingoldsby School has joined the David Ross Education Trust (DRET). The school converted on March and will now be known as Ingoldsby Academy.

Headteacher Wendy Sorrell said the move marked an exciting new chapter for the staff, pupils and community. She said: “We believe that by joining the David Ross Education Trust we will be offering our pupils an even better education. We looked at a few different sponsors but felt that the Trust was the best organisation to cater for our needs as they already have experience of working with smaller, rural schools.”

The David Ross Education Trust sponsors secondary school, Charles Read Academy. The Corby Glen school faced closure in spring 2013 before being taken over by the trust. Since becoming part of DRET the school has had a royal visit, masterclasses with sports stars and has seen applications for Year 7 places almost double. An Ofsted report recently praised progress following markedly improved GCSE results although it said there was still room for improvement.

The children at Ingoldsby are now preparing for a trust-wide sports tournament, the Primary Cup, at the end of March.

Staff and pupils will start to immediately benefit from being part of a supportive education cluster, working closely with a number of our other local academies to enhance the education for all of the pupils.
