Jubilee Life Centre celebrates transformation and another year of successful projects in Grantham
The Jubilee Life Centre has unveiled a £100,000 renovation, and thanked supporters for enabling them to achieve a year full of successful projects.
In its latest phase of ongoing improvements, the upstairs of the centre in London Road has been transformed to create a spacious lounge, modern kitchen area, and new meeting rooms, all aimed at encouraging greater interaction between different generations within the community.
The rooms had remained untouched since the 1950s and 60s, and needed new flooring and windows to replace those ‘without much holding them in’ explained centre manager Nicci Whittaker.
The refurbishment has been funded primarily by Lincolnshire County Council and Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN), who donate money from landfill tax.
In addition the Jubilee Christian Fellowship have been supported by South Kesteven District Council and Grantham businesses.
The official opening on Monday also marked a year since the Live Sound youth project, which sees volunteers provide free music lessons and teach technical skills.
“This has showcased the best of Grantham,” said Nicci. The centre has held two Live Sound concerts, while its Count Me In project has brought together different nationalities through English language classes and community parties. Moreover through its coffee shop and Jubilee Canvas Print shop, the centre continues to work with students from the Grantham Additional Needs Federation.
With more renovations and projects planned, senior leader at the centre, Pat Whittaker, added: “It has been an amazing journey together, and it’s not over yet.”
