Just a few days left to nominate a Grantham area hero for an SK Community Award

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for others? Someone who is a pillar of the community?

If you feel they are deserving of a community award, nominations are open for just a few more days for South Kesteven District Council’s SK Community Awards 2023.

There are seven categories and nominations must be received by August 24.

In last year’s awards, Grantham man Gary Gooch was awarded the Good Neighbour Award, in recognition of his kindness in mowing lawns all year round for several people near his Cressbrook Road home.

Susan Swinburn, CEO of the BHive Community Hub in Grantham, was presented with the 'Health and Wellbeing Award' and Grace Knightall was crowned as 'Lifetime Community Champion' for her 30-plus years as district organiser for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Grantham man Andrew Harrison was a finalist for the Good Neighbour award as he helped families in need by providing them with vital furnishings, and the late Julie Harrod, founder of the Grantham Chemosabes Facebook Group, was a finalist for the Health and Wellbeing award for her group that provides a support network for cancer sufferers.

Julie sadly passed away in June aged 59 after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Categories in the SK Community Awards include Inspirational Young Person, Business and the Community, Lifetime Community Champion, Health and Wellbeing and The Neil Smith Beyond the Call of Duty Award.

Villages and parish councils can enter the Community in Bloom Award and an Urban Space Award recognises urban improvement projects.

An awards night in Bourne in October awaits all shortlisted nominees following judging in September.

A person or organisation can be nominated for more than one award.
