Knipfest cancelled due to coronavirus, but fund-raising continues
Despite being cancelled due to coronavirus, the Knipfest music festival will continue to raise money for charity.
Knipfest 2020 will not be going ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the event's organisers are already planning the popular festival for next year.
As well as making plans for 2021, organisers are raising money for Cancer Research and local hospices in the meantime.
Since its foundation in 2009, the festival has became a tribute to Julie Copley who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010 aged 41. In that time, spanning over a decade, the festival has raised a whopping total of over £160,000 for Cancer Research, St Barnabas Hospice and Dove Hospice in Melton Mowbray.
After Julie was diagnosed with cancer back in 2005, she started fund-raising for Cancer Research with the help of her husband John. They regularly held fund-raisers, including bike rides, and eventually in 2009, got together with the likes of Phil Noon, Jonathan Watchorn and Greg Herbert.
That year, the group cycled from Lands End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland to promote the inaugural Knipfest held at Belvoir cricket ground, Knipton.
In a statement, the organising team said: "Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus and the lockdown, we have had to cancel this year's event.
"Rather than sit back and take it, we have decided to start organising next year's festival which will be on the 3rd of July 2021.
"In the meantime, large charities like Cancer Research, are losing out pretty badly. We have set up this giving page to channel any donations we receive straight to Cancer Research.
"Any donation, no matter how small will be very welcome, and we all look forward to seeing you at next year's event.
"We are proud to say that we provide top class entertainment to an amazing audience. An audience that brings so much life and goodwill…every year!"
