Letter: Grantham A&E staff were caring and professional

My father died last Sunday, dropped dead in the garden doing what he loved, short and sweet, a painless end to a good, long life.

Irrelevant to most of you, but for all of us the only thing we can say is the general public, paramedics, doctors, nurses and associated staff who tried to save him were nothing less than caring and professional. To all those we would like to say thank you.

What it did mean, that may be of interest to the masses, was that we spent an afternoon in a very busy A&E department at Grantham hospital. Whilst the due process was taking its course, I heard on several occasions complaints from the attending general public with what can only be described as minor injuries regarding the shortage of staff available to tend to their requirements. These ranged from nobody cares to where the hell are they? Well we were allowed, through necessity, to walk through the treatment area and there they were, busy people attending the relentless ailments of the human race.

To the narrow minded few I would just like to say that next time your drunken Sunday afternoon antics give you a sprained wrist, broken ankle or sore head and you find yourself travelling to Boston, Lincoln or Leicester because the powers that be have taken away our remarkable hospital, you really will have something to complain about.

We need to save this facility before it is too late. The diligent few on the front line are highly admirable but the rest of us need to play our part. Think on.
