Grantham Lions deliver packages to care homes amid coronavirus lockdown
Grantham Lions have delivered care packages of food and other essentials to care homes during the coronavirus lockdown.
After contacting the NHS to offer their help, the group were directed to Grantham’s care homes that were in need of support.
The Lions put together individual gift bags to residents at Gregory House Care Home, which included basic items such as puzzle and colouring books, as well as food for residents and carers.
President of the club Phil Marshall said: “Grantham Lions wanted to offer some support within the community to support relating to the coronavirus and those affected by it. After initially contacting the NHS to see if we could offer financial help, it was suggested that the care homes would possibly appreciate our help instead.
“Members of the club made some enquiries and it soon became apparent that there was a need within the care sector which we could get involved with. Many of the care homes are in lock down and isolation and many basic items were required.
“The donations were greatly received from all residents and staff. Hampers were then put together with similar items for all care homes in the town.”
The Lions have so far been delivered to Gregory House, Newton House, Castlegate Nursing Home, Belvoir House, Harrowby Lodge, Red Court, Apple Trees, Kings Court, Birchwood Care Home and Maple Leaf Lodge.
The club also made a donation of £500 St Barnabas Hospice, with a presentation to be made when the current lockdown is over.
