Long queue for TK Maxx as shops reopen in Grantham

A long queue formed outside TK Maxx this morning as shoppers returned to the store on Dysart Retail Park.

The fashion and homewares store was just one of numerous shops in the town able to open following Government guidelines on non-essential shops.

Scores of shoppers started to queue outside TK Maxx well before the 9am opening. The store has put in place social distancing markers and tapes outside its store to keep customers in an orderly queue and the recommended 2m apart.

The only other queues to be seen in Grantham this morning were outside Barclays and Lloyds banks in the High Street.

Twelve weeks on from the start of lockdown and shops are allowed to open their doors, as long as they comply with Government guidance including displaying an official poster to confirm necessary steps have been taken.

Shoppers will find posters and signs up in the town centre to encourage social distancing.

The town's car park are much busier as the shops open and some people are able to return to work. The council is likely to extend free parking in its car parks until the end of July. The cabinet of South Kesteven District Council is likely to ratify this tomorrow (Tuesday).
