Long Clawson man appears in court charged with murder of Carrie Slater in the village




A man has been remanded in custody charged with murder.

Richard Basson, 44, is accused of killing Carrie Slater, 37, after she was found with a gunshot wound at a property in Long Clawson on Thursday (September 21).

Basson, of Kings Road, Long Clawson, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court today (Monday) accused of murder, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

He spoke only to give his name, address and date of birth. Magistrates’ sent the case to Leicester Crown Court where Basson will appear on Wednesday (September 27).

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Carrie grew up in Grantham. Her family have paid tribute to her. In a statement they said: “We’re still coming to terms with what happened. It’s difficult to put into words how we’re feeling but nothing we say is going to bring her back.”
