Ropsley man cycles 701 miles in August, raising over £2,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and Brain Tumour Research

A Ropsley man cycled 700 miles across the month of August, raising over £2,000 for two charities.

Nigel Earth, 59, set out to cycle 20 miles a day for the entire month of August in support of Prostate Cancer UK and Brain Tumour Research.

He surpassed his initial target of 600 miles for the month, cycling a total of 701.

The medication delivery driver finished on a quiet, drizzly afternoon on August 31, cycling an extra mile in memory of one of his customers, Clive, who recently died of cancer.

Nigel’s wife Sally said: “[Nigel] has had a couple of days rest from cycling as his tyres and brakes were worn out,so his bike needed servicing and he has worn out the hub on his front wheel.

“We are having a couple of weeks’ holiday but will be riding our bikes most days if the weather holds, just for exercise and fun, not anywhere near the miles he has covered this August!”

In February, Nigel raised £2,222 for Sands, a stillbirth and neonatal death charity, by running two miles a day throughout the month.

Sally continued: “Nigel has a soft spot for the ladies and gents he meets through his job and would like to make sure that they all know that he does appreciate his wonderful work family and colleagues.

“They have been so generous and kind and he would like to thank them all from the bottom of his heart for all their kind words of encouragement and their generosity for the two very worth while charities they have supported, Prostate Cancer UK and Brain Tumour Research.

“I am so very proud of his efforts and of his integrity and dedication at work and when fund raising, he is such a hard act to follow!”
