Man appears at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court after disturbance on Chesterfield Avenue, Bingham
A man has appeared in court after police received multiple reports of a man with a knife in the street.
Police were called to Chesterfield Avenue, Bingham, at around 5pm on Wednesday of last week (May 17) after members of the public reported a disturbance.
A suspect was identified in nearby Carnarvon Place and arrested by the Rushcliffe neighbourhood policing team and response officers.
While detaining the suspect, two officers were spat at with one also suffering injuries to his hand after being assaulted.
Aidan Sheppard, 26, of Harebell Gardens, Bingham, has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place, threatening behaviour and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday (May 19) and will next appear at the same court on Friday, June 16.
Sergeant Brett Price, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This incident attracted some attention in the community so I hope our rapid response in arresting and charging a suspect provides reassurance.
“We always respond quickly to reports of knives in public as they can be a danger to the person carrying them as well as anyone else they come into contact with.
“Stopping people from picking up a knife in the first place is the best way of tackling knife crime.”
