Grantham man appears at Lincoln Crown Court over assault in Old Bank Pub that left another man with 17 stitches

A Grantham man faces a possible jail sentence after he admitted wounding another man in a pub.

Lincolnshire Police received reports a man had been injured with a pint glass at the Old Bank Pub, in High Street, Grantham, at about 1.15am on Saturday, June 10.

Kieran Bostock, of Kestrel Court, Grantham, was charged with the Section 18 offence of wounding Joseph Spence-Arnold with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Bostock, 20, entered a not guilty plea to that charge when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court, but he admitted the lesser Section 20 offence of unlawfully wounding Mr Spence-Arnold on June 10 this year.

Neil Sands, prosecuting, said after consulting with the victim that plea was acceptable to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Leanne Summers, defending Bostock, asked for sentence to be adjourned for the preparation of a probation report.

Miss Summers said: "My application is for a pre-sentence report. Mr Bostock has no previous convictions and he is 20-years-of-age.

The court heard five references had also been prepared on Mr Bostock's behalf.

Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight told Bostock she would order a pre-sentence report but stressed she was not making any promises as to what the final sentence will be.

"You have pleaded guilty to what is a serious offence, although Section 20 is lesser than Section 18, it is still serious.

"I take into account your age and lack of convictions, but it will be a matter for the sentencing judge," Judge Sjolin Knight told Bostock.

Bostock was granted bail on condition he does not enter the Old Bank pub or contact Mr Spence-Arnold.

He will be sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on December 8.

Following the incident a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “Officers were called at 1.21am, and were immediately dispatched to locate the suspect and help the victim.

“On arrival, they found a man in his late teens with a serious injury which required hospital treatment.

"It was later confirmed that he needed 17 stitches to the facial wound.

"Officers carried out local street searches, as well as enquiries at a number of addresses in the town.”
