Mayor of Grantham given assurances over future of town’s ambulance station

A senior manager in the East Midlands Ambulance Service has said there are no plans to close the Grantham station.

Andy Hill, general manager of the Lincolnshire division of EMAS, was speaking to the Mayor of Grantham, Coun Ian Selby, in an interview to be broadcast on his Gravity FM radio show on Sunday evening.

Mr Hill said: “We have complete commitment to maintaining and keeping open Grantham ambulance station. Neither I nor EMAS at this moment in time or in the near future have any plans to close Grantham ambulance station. Our plans are to develop services both within the ambulance and pre-hospital environments, and also in the primary care environment.”

Mr Hill, speaking to Coun Selby at the emergency operations centre in Bracebridge Heath, said that plans for major ambulance hubs in the region were being competely reviewed. A plan to create a ‘super hub’ in Grantham was scrapped last year. He said that strategy was now “finished”, but said he had no plans to close any stations.

Mr Hill began his career in the ambulance service in Grantham in 1981 as a technician and worked in the town for six years.
