Recycling company plans to move to former QFC furniture company's premises in Grantham
A metal recycling company wants to relocate to the former premises of the QFC furniture company in Grantham which closed last year.
2 Recycling Ltd wants to move to larger premises from its current site on Venture Way. A planning application for change of use of the premises on Swingbridge Road, formerly used by the Quality Furniture Company, has been submitted to South Kesteven District Council.
The existing 8,256 sq m warehouse, including office space, will be retained as part of the proposed development, along with the existing hard standing and vehicular access.
In a report by Vectio Consulting, it says: "2 Recycling collects scrap metals from businesses from all over the UK. It transports the scrap metal back
to its Grantham site at Trent House to weigh, grade and sort the metals before re-loading onto lorries and sending them out for recycling to end users or foundries. The Trent House site currently operates from a 2,350sq metre GIA warehouse, including ancillary office and staff facilities.
"The business employs 50 staff. Of the 50 staff, 11 are office based, whilst the remainder are drivers or on site shift workers. The business opening hours are Monday to Friday between 6 am and 8pm, and occasionally on Saturdays between 6am and midday. The business currently own 12 HGVs including two roll on roll off lorries (RoRo), and two vans."
QFC closed last year with the loss of about 160 jobs.
