The Milky Way seen above Belvoir Castle in picture by astrophotographer Steve Fearn

Photographer Steve Fearn has captured an amazing picture of the night sky as a backdrop to Belvoir Castle.

Steve's photograph shows the landmark silhouetted against the Milky Way.

Astrophotographer Steve, who regularly shares his pictures on Instagram, is forever keen to get out under clear dark skies.

He said: "It's always satisfying to see the Milky Way on the back of my camera over a local landmark."

He used a Nikon D5300 on an Omegon mini track LX2 tracking mount to take the shot.

But getting the photograph one morning last week was also an exercise in patience.

"It's a combination of exposures," Steve, who goes by SteveFearn1 on Instagram, explained. "Five minutes for the foreground and 20, one minute exposures for the Milky Way."

The Journal reshared Steve's picture on Instagram with his permission where it quickly racked up likes and views.

It's not the first time readers have been left in awe of his work.
