Grantham cat, Felix, was missing for over a month until he was spotted in vacant furniture shop Tradewell and returned to his owner

A Grantham cat that had been missing for over a month was located in a vacant town centre shop and returned to his owner.

Poppie Griffiths reported her black and white cat, Felix, as missing on July 30 in the Grantham UK Lost and Found Pets Facebook group, and saw no sign of her feline friend for weeks.

This was until a post was made by Caroline Deacon, who shared a picture of Felix into the Facebook group two days ago, showing him inside the former Tradewell shop in Brook Street, which closed in 2022.

Felix was spotted through the window of the former shop, Tradwell, in Brook Street.

Caroline explained that she was “a bit concerned” that Felix was stuck in the shop as he was “meowing in the window” when she passed.

People were quick to respond to the post, and it was deduced that Connell’s estate agents were selling the property.

The business was contacted and advised that they would be able to open the building the next morning to let Felix out.

In the meantime, local residents Calum and Aimee Acton went down and provided some food and water for Felix through the letterbox.

Caroline said: “I am delighted with the outcome, and so pleased that my post on the Grantham UK Lost and Found Pets group set the ball in motion to get Felix home, especially after learning he had been missing for a month!

“Grantham has an incredible animal loving community, who collectively sprung into action once they were aware of Felix's predicament.

“Within a couple of hours of my post on the group, the key holders to the building had been located and contacted, Felix had had some food and water delivered through the letterbox and his family had recognised and identified him and made arrangements to retrieve him at the earliest opportunity so they could bring him home.

Felix is now home safe and sound.

“An outstanding effort all round, and a very happy ending for Felix and his family."

Poppie confirmed that Felix was home safely and doing well.

“He’s acting as if he’s never left,” she added. “The true owner of us really.

“He is a very sweet boy, but very jumpy with strangers. I'm glad he’s home.”

Caroline said: "I'd also add that if anyone suspects an animal may be lost or in trouble they shouldn't hesitate to bring it to the attention of these groups on Facebook, and not be put off by the occasional negative reactions to such posts.

“It could be the difference between someone getting their pet home safely or facing the alternative.

“As a pet owner myself, having also been supported and assisted by the group when my own cat went missing, I would much rather someone posted to ask whether my pet was lost or ok and I'm sure the majority would agree.

“Of course plenty of the pets that are posted about, thankfully, turn out to be just fine and not lost, but I'm grateful we have such a caring and proactive community looking out for the safety and welfare of Grantham's pets and wildlife.”

Felix was unable to comment on the incident.
