Mother shocked to find syringes dumped by Grantham Canal

A mother who took her daughter to feed the ducks at Grantham Canal last week was shocked to discover this pile of rubbish dumped near Trent Road.

Posting the photo on our Facebook page, Jessica Jayne said: “This is what we are greeted with in the middle of the path! Absolutely disgusting!”

A South Kesteven District Council spokesman said: “We quickly responded to this report of littering in this location, clearing the items within hours of it being brought to our attention.

“CCTV is in place here and mobile cameras can be in operation anywhere in the district, so we advise residents to never drop litter and particularly dangerous items such as this.

“Syringes should also not be disposed of in residual black bins or pink bags at home as this endangers operatives collecting or dealing with the waste at the disposal site.

“For safety, they need to be contained within their yellow sharps containers, available from pharmacists or GPs.”
