New adventures are set to begin at Belton House near Grantham

The wait is almost over, as the renovated outdoor adventure playground at Belton House is set to open on March 31.

The first phase of £1.4 million works to refurbish the facility is complete and features a climbing forest, nine-metre tall tower maze and water play.

The second phase will include a new entrance, further play equipment, train station, toilets and catering facilities, and will open early in the summer.

National Trust project manager Ali Keightley said: “We’re working with design specialists Blue Forest to create a bespoke play experience and offer something really different and memorable for all our young visitors.”

The estate’s general manager, Ian Grafton, said the renovation work was needed to ensure the upkeep of the playground, which was opened in 1976 by the Brownlow family.

He added: “The support Belton receives from young families is vital to ensure the upkeep of this unique place, so it’s our responsibility to ensure we invest in the future of the adventure playground.”

The new playground will be open from 9.30am every day, closing only on Christmas Day. Admission will still be free for National Trust members while a grounds admission ticket will be needed for non-members. For more information visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/belton-house
