Buzz Bingo opens new club in Grantham
A bingo club has re-opened under a new brand name with the help of a bingo-loving mother and daughter.
Buzz Bingo opened its new club in Venture Way, Grantham. Ena Goddard is the club’s oldest customer at 87 and has been visiting since the Venture Way bingo club opened in the late 1980s. She joined her daughter, Joanne Moules, who works at the club, and the rest of the Buzz Bingo team on Friday to perform a special ribbon cutting, officially declaring the club open.
The launch of the new club comes as new research reveals Bingo players in the Midlands enjoy the game primarily as a way to socialise with others more than any other region in the UK. “I’ve got lots of friends at the bingo club and I love socialising with the other players,” said Ena. “The community side of bingo is great and it’s really fun as the ladies I play with are all quite competitive.”
Known as ‘Mrs G’ by customers and staff, Ena visits the club as a way to get out of the house every couple of weeks, due to her limited mobility. “I once won £800 in one night and I remember winning the ‘Pot of Gold’ years ago, which was about £2,000 at the time,” she added.
Bringing along family members spanning three generations to the launch, Ena said: “I feel very honoured to be invited as VIP for the launch party.”
Local marketing business partner, Mark St Claire said: “The club could’ve chosen a celebrity or a local dignitary for their opening, but instead they wanted to honour people who mean something to the club. That’s why Wayne, the general manager chose Ena and Joanne, who represent all of Buzz Bingo’s Grantham customers past and present – they’re the ultimate VIPs! It's a truly fantastic gesture from a club built from its community roots."
Buzz Bingo is the UK’s largest chain of bingo clubs, with over 100,000 bingo players winning nearly £3million every week.
Chris Matthews, CEO at Buzz Bingo, said: “Bingo appeals to people of all ages, from all walks of life. It’s a fun, safe, judgement-free night out with games, dinner and drinks, all for less than £20. We designed Buzz Bingo clubs to make socialising and being part of a local community easy, and research shows that Bingo players are more likely to have a positive outlook on life than others. Our colleagues are friendly, fun and supportive, and always delighted to help you have a great night out with friends and family.”
