New food manufacturing facilities on former McCain site at Easton near Grantham could create up to 250 jobs

Proposed plans to build new food manufacturing facilities on the site of a closed down factory could create up to 250 new jobs.

The Sadel Group is seeking public feedback on plans to build the food and temperature controlled facilities in Burton Lane, Easton.

The proposed buildings would stand in place of the former McCain factory, which closed down in 2020.

The McCain factory was a large employer in the area and the closure resulted in the loss of 230 jobs.

The Sadel Group is asking people to provide feedback up to July 21 on the plans which would “consolidate its importance to the local community and regional economy”, said a spokesperson for the Sadel Group.

The spokesperson added: “The proposed investment plans seek to attract a new food producer to the site by creating modern, fit-for-purpose food production facilities.

“The proposals would create new jobs including apprenticeships and training opportunities and seek to replace the jobs that were lost when McCains left the site last year.

“The co-location of the new food production facility and cold storage facilities will help combat unnecessary and wasted food miles and road congestion.

“There are also several other environmental benefits including the production of onsite renewable energy in support of the UK government’s net zero carbon targets 2035 and 2050 and the production of organic fertiliser for the local farming community.”

The proposed plans would also include an anaerobic digestion plant, where plant and animal materials break down microorganisms in the absence of air.

This would provide the site with renewable energy.

If the build goes ahead, it would sit next to Cold Chain Federation’s Magnavale site, a cold storage facility which will be the highest in the UK and create 100 further jobs.

Anyone who would like to provide feedback and find out more information about the plans can do so at https://www.sadeleastonplans.co.uk/

All feedback will be considered by the project team before they submit planning applications to South Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council.
