Jobs are to be created at Grantham’s Meres Leisure Centre with work poised to start on a £600,000 modernisation.

Bosses at the leisure complex, in Trent Road, are seeking to recruit seven staff to add to the 110 people currently employed at the centre.

This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to join the growing team.

The news comes as operators 1Life and South Kesteven District Council have announced that a main contractor has just been appointed to carry out the modernisation venture.

The centre is currently recruiting for a number of positions including fitness coach, group training instructor, group training manager, sales manager, café staff, reception staff and lifeguard (with or without qualification as training will be provided) and freelance personal trainers.

Tony Mabbott, contract manager for 1Life in South Kesteven, said: “In addition to these posts, there will be an apprentice position available for someone looking to start their journey towards becoming a qualified fitness coach.”

He added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to join the growing team at the centre.

“It’s a really exciting time for the leisure centre with so many significant changes taking place.

“The investment being made into this facility will make it one of the premier leisure facilities in the area and a real chance to make a difference for those who are successful in their applications.”

The centre will be holding a recruitment day during June and anyone interested in any of the positions should send a CV and covering letter to the General Manager, James Cole at gmgrantham@1life.co.uk

The modernisation programme will start this summer and will involve doubling the size of the gym, the creation of a new group cycling studio, new changing rooms with lockers, cubicles and showers and the reconfiguration of the reception area.

The investment has also included the development of a new Costa Coffee café which was completed in early May.

The project is due to be finished later this summer.

The gym will benefit from most of the works with the installation of state-of-the-art equipment including integrated audio visual on some of the cardio machines, a TRX suspension training system and the latest in small equipment innovations.

Bosses say the centre will be the first in the UK to use the TRX Strong Flex and Lean system.

Mr Mabbott said: “The people of Grantham will be getting a first class facility that will have some of the very latest in fitness innovations.

“The investment is going to make a significant difference to the services that we can offer to the community and we are sure that our customers will be delighted with the changes that are being made.”

The council’s business manager for venues and facilities, Paul Stokes, said: “We are delighted to be working with 1Life to make tremendous improvements to our leisure centre in Grantham.”

A dedicated service is also being created to build on the work of an already successful GP referral programme.

This targets group exercise and weight loss activities, working in-centre and as part of a community outreach scheme.
