Nottinghamshire Chief Constable to leave for new job in Cyprus

The Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police is leaving the post to take up a position in Cyprus.

Chris Eyre announced today that he is taking up a new position as Chief Constable, Sovereign Base Area Police Cyprus. He will leave the force on June 23.

Deputy Chief Constable Sue Fish will become temporary Chief Constable until March 31, 2017.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Torr will take over his responsibilities as Deputy Chief Constable on June 11.

Mr Eyre said: “I am proud of all the officers and staff I have had the privilege of leading during my six years here. Together we have shown that this is one of the finest forces in the country. I have had the pleasure of working with many community leaders and partners during my time here.”

Commissioner Paddy Tipping said: “Chris Eyre has been an outstanding Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire. Crime in Nottinghamshire is falling faster than almost anywhere else in the UK and Nottinghamshire Police is the fastest improving police force in England and Wales. This is all as a result of the Chris’s work as Chief Constable over the last six years. I wish him well in his challenging new role.

“I’m delighted that Sue Fish has decided to delay her retirement until March 31 2017. Both Sue and I agree that it’s important to have continuity in leadership of the top team.

“It’s vital that we appoint a new Chief Constable for 1 April 2017 who will help us tackle the challenging environment we face.”
