Obituary: Mrs Edna Maud Newman and Mr J. C. Newman
Mrs Edna Maud Newman, of St Andrew’s Nursing Home, Ewerby, has died there. She was 88.
Born in Grantham, she was the daughter of the late Edith and Herbert Reynolds. She was sister to the late May, Vic, Sid and also Lilly and Jean.
She was the ex-wife of the late Cecil Newman, and partner of the late Patrick Knight. Mrs Newman was mother to Karen, the late Jeffrey and David, and also Nadine and Anthony.
Mrs Newman had resided in Rugby Cottages, Earlesfield Lane and Braemar Close, Grantham, but in her later years she had lived in Casterton Care Home, Belvoir Care Home and latterly St Andrew’s Nursing Home in Ewerby.
On leaving school she worked at Bell’s flour mill. In the evenings she worked at Kirby’s fish and chip shop. After raising her children, she worked at BMARC until her retirement.
Mrs Newman enjoyed knitting, television, holidays abroad and at home, and spending time with her family.
Funeral arrangements were by David Holland, London Road, Grantham.
Donations were received for Dementia UK.
Mr J. C. Newman
Mr Jeffrey Cecil Newman, of Newport Avenue, Grantham, has died at home. He was 67.
Born in Grantham, he was the son of the late Cecil Newman and the late Edna Newman. He was brother to Karen, the late David, and Nadine and Anthony,
Mr Newman was married to Margaret. He has a son, Mark.
He left school and became an apprentice hairdresser with Harry Mitchum. Later he worked for Bjorlows on Earlesfield Lane and lastly he worked at Reads Cans (later known as Nacanco) on Springfield Road, Grantham. He retired at the age of 49 due to health issues.
In his early teens he enjoyed building and flying model aircraft. He was keen on DIY and gardening and latterly he enjoyed watching television, especially political, current affairs and nature documentaries.
Funeral arrangements were by Geesons Funeral Directors, Westgate, Grantham.
Donations were received for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
A joint funeral service for mother and son was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Madge Marshall-Brown.
