Obituary: Mrs Hilary Swingler
Mrs Hilary Swingler, of Church Street, Barrowby, has died at home. She was 80.
She was born in November 1933 at Heanor Nursing Home, the daughter of Arnold and Myra Grainger. She was the eldest of three daughters.
She came to Grantham to train as a teacher at Kesteven Teacher Training College and secured her first teaching post at The National School, Grantham, where she taught just girls.
She met Colin and they were married on Boxing Day 1956.
Mrs Swingler helped in the post office at the shop they owned in Gonerby Hill Foot, alongside teaching at Gonerby Hill Foot Primary School.
After a short break from teaching to have her two children David and Helen, she moved teaching posts to work at Earlesfield Junior School.
In 1989 Mrs Swingler took early retirement on health grounds.
During her retirement she became a truly wonderful and most loved nan to Joanna, Mark, Eleanor, Thomas, Emily and Josh, Kerry and Edward.
She embraced many hobbies, excelling at whatever she did, especially her painting.
Mrs Swingler made many wonderful friends, many she had known for over 50 years and she will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
The Rev June Rowland conducted the funeral service at All Saints Church, Barrowby. Cremation followed in Grantham.
