Grantham singers entertain thousands in Facebook group
A Facebook group set up by a local singer has been showcasing live music acts to thousands in lockdown.
Laura Church, of Dudley Road in Grantham, created Go Live Entertainment on Facebook, encouraging local singers and DJs to perform remotely.
This free live music will have come as a relief to many who are self-isolating, and has already proved to be extremely popular, with the group attracting more than 2,800 members since its creation last Saturday.
Laura got the idea from other singers that she has met out in Spain while visiting her parents, who live in Costa Blanca.
She said: “I just set it up and started messaging people. The people [in Spain] had set one up and they’re in a much more strict lockdown than us.”
Ricky Gardner, aka Ricky Gee, did a Saturday night DJ set in the Go Live group.
Laura added: “Ricky Gee has been fantastic. The most proactive in sharing the group to others and getting people involved.
“I put him on on Saturday night because he’s so bubbly and outgoing. He gets people involved and has a great sense of humour.
“I performed on the first Sunday night. That’s had over 5,000 views. I’m really grateful to all of the artists giving up their time to come on and perform.”
On Sunday, it will exclusively be children performing on the group.
Laura continued: “I know a lot of people who have got kids with them at home. It’s only been adults singing so far, so it’s good to give kids a chance.
“My son has just turned 12, he likes Elvis and sings in Elvis groups online. That boosts his confidence.
“I know what a difference it’s made for him, so hopefully it’ll be the same for other kids.”
