Land of Hops and Glory Beer Festival at St Wulfram’s Church goes down a storm
A Grantham beer festival was enjoyed by over 2,000 people, with the bands and new bars going down a storm.
The Land of Hops and Glory Beer Festival returned to St Wulfram’s Church, starting on Thursday and running until Saturday night.
On Thursday, Father Clay Roundtree got things started by blessing the beer, before Mayor of Grantham, Councillor Mark Whittington, rang the bell to open the festival.
The festival was organised by St Wulfram’s and CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). This year saw two new bars added, serving alcohol-free drinks and cocktails.
Father Roundtree ran his ‘Clay Cocktails’ bar, which was inspired by Tom Cruises’s 1988 film Cocktail.
Melanie Brown, operations and development manager, said: “Over 2,000 people came over the three day period, although Saturday evening was quieter than we had hoped but we think that was probably down to the rugby.
“Father Clay’s cocktail bar was busy throughout and the alcohol-free bar was really well received.
“The appalling weather on Friday did not deter visitors which was great.
“We are grateful to all those who came to support the event, our volunteers and all the other partner organisations and suppliers we work with to make this possible.”
There was plenty of live music to enjoy during the festival, with several morris dancing sides and ceilidh band, Charlie’s Ant.
Local band 23 Reason’s played on Friday evening, and Mel said that they “went down a storm with the crowd”.
Elise and Kiera from Chapel House pizza proved pizza for on Thursday and Friday and were busy both nights.
On Saturday, Groove Cartell “created a party atmosphere at the event”.
