Parents team up for cycle challenge for Grantham school
Two parents are preparing to embark on an epic bike ride in a bid to raise money for their children’s school.
Kim Gibson and Claire Bembridge, both 37, are hoping to raise £1,000 towards a new archery area and drama studio at Ambergate Sports College, Grantham, to show their appreciation to the school for ‘making such a difference’ in their children’s lives.
Kim, whose 14-year-old daughter Leona attends the school, said: “Leona started the school in Year 7. She has additional needs and would never have coped with mainstream school. She has come on leaps and bounds since joining Ambergate, as has Claire’s 10-year-old son Reece.
“This is our way of showing the school how much we appreciate everything they have done and raise some money for them at the same time. The money raised will go toFriends of Sandon and Ambergate (FOSA) which will benefit all the children at both schools.
“Everyone we have told so far, including the teachers and staff at the school, have all been very supportive.”
The friends will be setting off from Skegness next Sunday - August 26 - and will make their way to Grantham on the same day.
Kim added: “We wanted somewhere that is familiar to us and it is a route that we drive regularly, so we know that there are plenty of places to stop. if we need to.
“At the moment, we don’t have a target time to finish - we just want to make it back!”
In order to prepare for the 53 mile journey, the friends, who admit that they are not exactly cycling enthusiasts have been taking their bikes for test runs around Grantham.
Staff from Ambergate Sports College and Sandon School which form the Grantham Additional Needs Fellowship (GANF) also completed an epic fund-raising challenge last month by running 120 miles in 24 hours to raise money for an outdoor ampitheatre.
From Grantham, the seven man team ran to Caythorpe, Spilsby, Boston, Spalding, and back to Grantham, raising £2,085.
