Plans for 60-bed care home in village near Grantham have been submitted
Plans for a 60-bed care home in a village near Grantham have been submitted.
Applicant DWA Architects (London) Ltd wants to build the care home with a new access, car parking and landscaping off the A607 Honington Road in Barkston on a parcel of land between existing housing and the Morley Motors car sales business.
A spokesperson for the applicant said: “There will be 30 bedrooms at ground floor level and 30 bedrooms at first floor level. In addition, the care home will provide other facilities for residents, including dayrooms, dining rooms, a small cinema, exercise facilities and residents a hair salon.
“The design also includes a basement to reduce the perceived mass of building. The accommodation at that level has been selected carefully and includes the kitchen, laundry, and plant rooms.
“Some accommodation has been provided for residents at that level but it that has also been carefully selected for purposes which do not require natural light, including the cinema and exercise area (gym).”
People living near the proposed care home together with the parish council and others who may be affected by the plan have been consulted or asked to give their opinions on the plan.
The applicant says the home will be capable of caring for people of all dependancy levels, including those who require dementia care within a specialist unit.
A spokesman added: “Overall, we believe that the proposed development of the site will improve the level of care accommodation and facilities within the area.
“The proposed development has been appropriately designed for the surrounding area and we believe that both the building and the use reflect guidance found within the relevant Local Plan Policies and National Planning Policy Framework.”
