Belvoir Estates submits plans to move temporary wedding marquee to land near Woolsthorpe by Belvoir

A plan to use grazing land as a temporary wedding venue has been submitted.

Belvoir Estates has applied for permission to use a site near Woolsthorpe by Belvoir as a temporary wedding venue between May and September.

The land, currently used for grazing, sits west of the junction between Belvoir Road and Cliff Road, close to the tip of the north-eastern boundary of the Belvoir estate parkland.

As part of the plans, a marquee would be added to house the wedding events, with guests accessing the site via the gates on Woolsthorpe Road, adjacent to Belvoir Castle.

The site is located on a plateau beyond a recently planted vinery and partially enclosed to the north by old hedges, trees and a formal double tree-lined avenue.

The application said: “Following a planning refusal for a temporary wedding marquee located close to the lake, a search for a more sensitive location was undertaken and the area of land beyond the vinery now proposed was identified and fully investigated in relation to the potential to impact on heritage significance.

“Historic England and the local planning authority are generally supportive of this location, subject to the provision of more detail, now included in this proposal.

“The proposed site is located in an area where it considered there will be a minimal impact on both the setting of Belvoir Castle and also on its grade II* listed registered park and garden.

“Because of the extensive mature tree cover, there is limited visibility of the proposed marquee from "Gateside" cottage and even less from the front entrance gates.”
