Application to build 48 new homes in village near Grantham
Plans have been submitted to build 48 new homes in Long Bennington.
The proposal would see the development of a 2.34 hectare site to the west of Main Road, currently owned by W. H. Ablewhite.
Situated south of Long Bennington, the site would be accessed directly from Main Road, opposite Elm Close.
To the north of the site is The Pastures, with a commerical site with open yard area set behind a series of park-style homes and various workshops on the south-eastern boundary.
The majority of the 48 homes would be either two or three bedrooms, but six of the dwellings would have either four or five bedrooms.
The applicant said: “The new houses will enjoy views to the west and south over open fields giving views across to local open fields towards the A1.”
As well as the 48 dwellings, an open green space, pond and acoustic barrier towards the A1 would be part of the site’s development.
In terms of what the homes themselves could look like, the applicant said: “The architectural treatment will be varied to form a vibrant and interesting mixture across the scheme.
“Features such as porches and window heads/cills will be selected to represent elements of local character present in the historic core of the village.
“Traditional barn-style architecture will be used on the northern boundary with simple brickwork facades facing outwards, allowing more glazed elevations facing into the development.
“The palette of materials will be selected to harmonise with the village and the rural landscape.”
The properties would be a mixture of detached, semi-detached and bungalows, with 17 of the 48 homes categorised as ‘affordable’.
The applicant added: “The proposal is clearly sustainable in both its locality and content and therefore should be approved in accordance with the SKDC Local Plan 2011-2036.”
