Police chopper and drone deployed for search after car crashes near RAF Barkston Heath




A police helicopter and drone were brought in for a potential search and rescue after a car was found crashed into a tree near an RAF base with no occupants in sight.

The crash happened yesterday (Wednesday) on the High Dyke near RAF Barkston Heath.

The drone was deployed for its thermal imaging capabilities.

The driver and a passenger were found safe and well.

A tweet from Lincolnshire Police Drones read: "Leaving the scene and not contacting @lincspolice takes up valuable multiple resources."

As the crash was near to an RAF base, police were in contact with RAF Coningsby and other authorities, as is standard practice. The force was quick to point out RAF Barkston Heath's runway was not operational at the time of the crash.
