Police release update on investigation into murder of Grantham man Tony McDermott
Police have released an update on their investigation into the death of a 38-year-old man in Grantham.
Father of six Tony McDermott, 38, died in the early hours of Saturday, October 14, in Eton Street, Grantham.
Nicholas Ward, 37, of Eton Street, Grantham, was charged with Mr McDermott's murder and appeared before Judge Simon Hirst at Lincoln Crown Court on October 17.
No pleas were entered and Judge Hirst adjourned the case for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Lincoln Crown Court on January 8.
Mr McDermott's best friend, Martin Clarke set up a GoFundMe page aiming to raise £5,000 for his family, and the fundraiser surpassed this target earlier in the week.
On Wednesday, Grantham Police confirmed that investigations at the scene in Eton Street have been completed and thanked the local community for their patience.
A spokesperson said: “Specially-trained officers, forensic experts, and investigators have been on scene at Eton Street, Grantham, throughout the past week and a half as we continue our investigation into the death of 38-year-old Tony McDermott.
“We have now completed those enquiries and would like to thank the local community for their understanding and patience with what we know might have felt disruptive at times.
“It was vital that our investigation at that property was thorough so we can help bring justice for him and him family. Our enquiries are ongoing.”
