Welbourn Primary School goes from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good’ after latest Ofsted inspection

A primary school has improved its Ofsted rating from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good’.

Welbourn Primary School was rated as ‘good’ following an Ofsted inspection in June, having previously been rated ‘requires improvement’.

The school was first deemed to require improvement after an inspection in 2017.

Current headteacher Mrs Tracy Boulter took on the job in 2018 and in a 2019 inspection, Ofsted noted that the school had “improved rapidly” since her appointment.

However, the 2019 report stated that the quality of education was “not yet good enough” and the school retained its ‘requires improvement’ rating.

Welbourn Primary School’s latest inspection showed that the school is ‘good’ in all areas except for ‘Behaviour and Attitudes’ which received an ‘outstanding’ grade.

Mrs Boulter said: “I am delighted that we are officially a ‘good’ school with outstanding behaviour and attitudes to learning.

“Our staff and governors work incredibly hard and always go that extra mile for our school and deserve to be recognised for the difference that they make to our children and families.”

She explained that it has been “amazing to get the school to where it should be”, adding that the school’s staff are “incredible”.

The 2023 report said: “Pupils are happy at Welbourn Church of England Primary School. They enjoy their learning and talk with enthusiasm about school life.

“Pupils say that they feel safe. They like the rewards they earn for doing their best.

“Pupils are polite and respectful. They behave exceptionally well. They know that staff quickly sort out any problems and that bullying is not tolerated. Bullying rarely occurs.”

In terms of areas to improve, the report said the curriculum in a few foundation subjects is “not ambitious enough”.

“Leaders should ensure that the curriculum is suitably ambitious, enabling pupils to know more and remember more in all subjects,” the report added.
