They also had the chance to meet their local MPs, other award-winning schools and enjoy a trip on the London eye.

David Johnson, headteacher at Cliffedale Primary School, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the best breakfast club in the East Midlands.

“Our club provides such important provision for our students – it gives pupils an opportunity to connect to their school community at the start of the day and prepares them for learning.

“We are thrilled!”

The school will spend its winnings on purchasing new equipment for the children to play with such as games and puzzles of their choice, since they currently rely on donations from the community.

The panel of judges selected winners based on the inspiring individuals and activities that transform the mornings of children across the UK and said that with so many amazing stories submitted, the competition was tough.

Cliffdale’s breakfast club organises physical activities for the children to take part in, which has proved to be extremely popular as it allows the pupils to feel more energised and ready for the day.

This year Kellogg’s is celebrating 25 years since launching its Breakfast Club Programme in 1998.

To mark the occasion, the company will be growing the size of its programme across the UK by increasing the number of schools supported by 50 per cent.

Over the last quarter of a century, Kellogg’s has invested more than £5million into breakfast clubs, by providing training, grants and food.

Latest research from Kellogg’s found nearly four in 10 teachers across the UK claim to see children coming to school hungry every day, with 72 per cent believing the number of children attending their breakfast club has risen.

Chris Silcock, managing director of Kellogg’s UK & Ireland, said: “So many clubs across the UK deserve recognition and we are delighted to be able to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication breakfast club leaders, teachers and volunteers put into their club each and every day.

“After receiving 450 applications, it’s been tough to pick our finalists from so many inspiring stories. It has been incredible to hear the innovation, entrepreneurship and care that goes into every breakfast club that has entered this year.”
