Prime Minister Boris Johnson refuses to rule out Christmas covid restrictions

The Prime Minister has refused to rule out Christmas covid restrictions.

Boris Johnson declined to answer whether tougher measures would be put in place before Christmas, it has been widely reported.

Interviewed at a vaccination centre on Monday morning, Mr Johnson said omicron could make up most of the new covid cases in London by Tuesday.

He asked the public to set aside the potential for omicron to be a milder form of covid than the delta variant, and added the quick pace at which it was spreading was critical.

He added at least one patient in the UK had now died having contracted the omicron variant.

It follows the Prime Minister's introduction the 'work from home if you can' rule enforced from today (Monday), as well as the wearing of face masks in most indoor settings following a rapid rise in infections.

Mr Johnson also addressed the nation on Sunday evening to announce a fierce booster drive, which he hopes will see most over 18s jabbed with three doses by January.

The NHS booking centre for booster jabs crashed right after Mr Johnson made his address.
