Grantham pupil is crowned 'All Conkering Champion'

A Grantham primary school held a conker tournament which ended in one pupil being crowned ‘All Conkering Champion’.

The 20th annual tournament at St Anne’s Primary School began last Monday and saw more than 20 children in Years 5 and 6 take part.

They played each other until Harry Gaskin and Elliot Kelham were the two remaining competitors.

Both classes gathered in the hall for the “thrilling” final – and Year 6 pupil Elliot was the winner.

Year 5 teacher Peter Shaw said: “After a couple of hard and loud strikes, Elliot was crowned the victor.

“Both players were great sports and Elliot’s mum even passed on their family secret of letting their conkers dry naturally for the week before the tournament to the rest of the school to help next year’s competitors.

“Clearly a good trick as it was Elliot’s second victory, having won whilst in Year 5.”
