Fears raised over 'blue pellets' on pavements in Ancaster

Residents in Ancaster have raised fears after finding ‘blue pellets’ scattered along the pavements.

The pellets were discovered on Ermine Street and Main Street in Ancaster on Friday morning and were still there on Monday afternoon.

One resident who asked not be named said: “We are worried that they could be slug pellets and a number of people have said that their dogs were not very well after coming into contact with the pellets. We are worried that a child might mistake them for sweets.”

South Kesteven District Council is investigating where the pellets came from but has not received any reports of people or dogs becoming ill. A roadsweeper has cleaned the path on Ermine Street where the pellets were spread.

A council spokesperson said: “There may be some residue and we would ask residents to be vigilant and as a precaution not allow their dogs to digest it. Any small amount that is left will continue to dissolve.

“It is not clear how the substance came to be there. If it was done deliberately we would condemn this sort of behaviour. Chemical substances should not be spread in public areas, even if those

responsible are acting with the best of intentions. We would like to hear from anyone who may be able to help us track down the source.”
