Bingham residents treated to sky show by Skydive Langar team as they jumped into rugby club

Residents were treated to a sky show as a group parachuted into the town rugby club.

The people of Bingham were treated to a rare show on Thursday night when skydivers from Langar airfield jumped into the rugby club, trailing coloured fog through the air sailing their parachutes over the audience as they came in to land between the rugby posts.

Twelve members of staff from Skydive Langar were involved in the display, which involved taking off from Langar airfield, flying at an altitude of 8,000 feet over Bingham and dropping skydivers, who fell for around 20 seconds before deploying their parachutes and descending safely down to earth.

Known as the Super Secret Skydiving Stunt Squad, the Langar based group puts on various skydiving shows throughout the year and in recent years has jumped into Bingham’s Butt Field, a school in Grantham, a farm in Denton and a cricket club in Skegness.

They also delivered a match ball at a Leeds rugby match.

The purpose of the display jumps is to provide local people an opportunity to see the skydivers, and for the skydivers themselves to enjoy a different experience by landing into a new landing area.

Speaking of the display, team leader Josh Carratt said: “It was a lot of fun for us to jump into Bingham rugby club and we’re very grateful to everyone there for facilitating the display and making us so welcome.

“It was great to see so many local people come to support the jump and watch our team as they came in to land.

“Many of our staff live in Bingham so it was also really special for them to be able to jump over their houses.”

Members of Facebook group True Bingham were quick to applaud the show, with one resident exclaiming that “it was fantastic to walk outside and look up to you all coming down. Fabulous display and to see the speed you came in above our house”, with another describing their child’s reaction to the skydivers: “My three-year-old daughter was shouting me to come look outside above our house as she thought they were landing in our garden.

“She loved watching and waving to them! Was great to watch.”

The skydiving centre has been quick to invite local people to spectate at Langar airfield, where skydiving takes place every day except Christmas Day, weather permitting.
